Jack

Hey, Google Reader users, click on over to our blog. Why? No reason, except that when I told you to do that last time you actually commented! We nearly got as many comments as when we announced the pregnancy of our second child!

So, my little boy is 7 months old today! Woohoo! I love it. Things are starting to get really fun around here! I just love it when their personality starts to emerge. Jack is generally a very content and happy baby. He hardly fusses and actual crying is quite rare. We just love him to bits.

What do you need to know about 7 month old Jack?

*Well, his vitals, as of 1 week ago were: weight=15 lb 2 oz; 5th percentile. height=26 inches; 19%. head=17 inches; 22%
He's small okay?

*He can army crawl. Well, I'm not sure if it can be called an army crawl or not. I don't think there's any movement of the legs, but he can pull himself around with his arms to wherever he wants to go. He'll stay in one room though. It's funny to watch him get on all fours and try to crawl. He rocks his bum forward and backward, sometimes even making crawling motions with his legs and then just does a desperate belly flop forward. I wonder when he'll learn he needs to move his arms at the same time.

*He spends most of his time making his way around the floor in the family room, sleeping in his crib, or sitting in his high chair.

*He is sill toothless. But I think I feel a bump down there getting ready to poke through. And then there's the constant drool, shoving everything into his mouth, and the more than usual fussiness.

*He's a good little sleeper. He goes to bed around 7 or 7:30, wakes up to eat anytime between 5 or 6 and then goes back to bed until 7:30 or 8. Thank you, Jack.

*He LOVES his mama. He just lights right up when I come into the room. Sometimes I'll catch him just staring at me like he has a school-boy crush. And when he is fussy or upset about something and someone else is holding him he'll lean out of their arms towards me. And then he'll usually be as content as can be. But look, he loves his Daddy too.

*Do you remember when Jack was just a month old that he loved being on his side? Well, it's still true. He likes to prop himself up on his side to play. I've never seen a baby do that. It's adorable.

*Jack is getting a little better at eating. That or I've already given up the higher ideals I had set. And I'm realizing that store bought baby food has advantages all it's own. Primarily that I don't care nearly as much when he won't eat store bought peas as I do when he won't eat my homemade ones. He doesn't seem to like runny foods. He really likes Cheerios. I've tried to use that to my advantage. For example, I make him "Jack d'oeuvres" consisting of mashed sweet potato rolled into a ball placed on top of a cheerio. Or there's the spin off of chips and guacamole using Cheerios and avocado. And I've even had success with just coarsely crushing up Cheerios and putting it in store bought baby food purees. And life is really looking up now that he can manage to get Cheerios, and even avocado pieces, into his mouth by himself.

*And Jack still enjoys a good spit up. And did you know that when babies spit up after they've started eating solids, it is no longer spit up? It's PUKE.

*Despite that unfortunate habit, we just adore our little guy! And I'm really looking forward to seeing more and more of his personality these next few months! He is such a happy little guy.

Yay! It's the 12th. I knew I could count on you. Your kids will appreciate the record of their lives someday, almost as much as we do.
Jack is so cute, and I detect a little mischief in him. He will keep you on your toes.

Okay, Jack is ADORABLE. That pic with Matt? SO cute! He really is a sweet baby, with such a personality. I love that he loves his mommy, and that he likes to chill on his side. That is just hilarious.

You totally should take a picture of his fancy food!

So cute! And don't worry, most of my boys were small- but I was always glad not to have one of those giant babies that look 6 months or a year older then they really are!
Ok, that side thing is just too funny.

Just think, only five more months until the puking stops. I'm jealous. I haven't even started it yet. But it will come. And once again, I will wait a year to get my carpets cleaned, and then I'll think, might as well wait until they are done potty training, which in some cases can be five years. Hopefully.
